Workshop: The Art Of Soliloquy

  • Fine Arts Studio, ARGAN Bedaya Kuwait (map)

Dive into the heart of Shakespearean drama with our next workshop, The Art of Soliloquy: Understanding Inner Monologues in Shakespeare. This interactive workshop is designed to explore the powerful tool of soliloquy – a key element that gives voice to the internal thoughts and struggles of Shakespeare's characters. Join us for an enlightening journey into the minds of Shakespeare's most fascinating characters, and discover the artistry behind their memorable monologues.

Soliloquies are vital to understanding the emotional landscape of characters like Hamlet, Macbeth, and Juliet. In this workshop, we will analyze some of the most famous soliloquies in Shakespeare’s plays, uncovering the depth and complexity of his characters’ inner worlds. Through guided discussions and readings, participants will gain a deeper appreciation of how Shakespeare uses soliloquies to develop character, advance plot, and engage his audience. At the end of the workshop, you will also be able to create your own soliloquy focusing on a modern-day dilemma.

This workshop is perfect for literature enthusiasts, actors, and anyone interested in understanding the nuances of Shakespeare’s writing. Whether you are new to Shakespeare or a seasoned reader, The Art of Soliloquy will provide fresh insights into Shakespeare’s works and allow you to create your very own soliloquy.

By the end of this 2-hour workshop, students will:

  • Learn what a soliloquy is and why they remain important today.

  • Understand why soliloquies were used in plays and what they reveal by a character.

  • Read and analyse several Shakespearian soliloquies and understand the dilemmas each character faces.

  • Create their own monologues using modern dilemmas as inspiration.

  • Present or perform their own soliloquies.
